This GreenSenses Workshop recognizes and builds on what you do know and gives you a step-by-step approach to identify and pivot into new career possibilities. It combines career planning with the discipline of foresight, a valuable industry skillset that enables you to see and unlock new opportunities.
Green Career Coach Beth Offenbacker and Foresight and Solutions Navigator Jim Burke will share proven steps and tools that for understanding your desires, and sensing, analyzing needs and trends, and acting in support of your Green Career.
We will work together to identify your professional opportunities in the sustainability field through foresight, skills assessments, mentoring, and experiential exercises. Together, these innovative practices will empower you to act your way into a new career that honors your sustainability values.
You will also benefit from two, 60-minute individual coaching sessions with Jim Burke and Beth Offenbacker, on the career or forecasting topics of your choice.
At this workshop series, you will:
1. Establish, clarify, and polish your specific Green Career goals and steps necessary for your search
2. Learn how to discover current and emerging market trends – Social, Technological, Environmental, Economic, Political, and Ethical – that can influence your Green Career journey
3. Create your short-and longer-term Career Plan that advances a “Green” career that has meaning and purpose
4. Learn to use the GreenSenses Career Management tool for your job search and ongoing career success
5. Establish milestones for taking action on your Green Career plan
6. Identify and work with a cohort “buddy”, who will serve as a support for you in taking action
7. Network with fellow workshop attendees who can be a Green Career resource for you
Workshop Navigators
Beth Offenbacker, PhD, Associate Certified Coach, is Founder and CEO of Waterford, Inc. A senior executive trailblazer with 25 years of Green experience, she works with scientific and technical professionals and organizations to innovate, build, and deliver learning programs that elevate individual and organizational capabilities and performance. She delivers individual coaching sessions and workshops for professionals moving into or advancing in a sustainability career. This involves developing or honing their career plan and strategy, and guides them in implementing it. An experienced Green Career Coach, she co-designed and leads the Green Career programs co-hosted by Waterford, Inc. and Leaders in Energy, a 4,500+ member global nonprofit that advances clean tech and sustainable solutions. Beth has led more than 25 workshops with hundreds of individuals who have subsequently successfully landed new roles in the sustainability field.
Jim Burke is founder and Foresight and Solutions Navigator at DeepDive Foresight, bringing surprises to people before they are surprised. He has decades of successful long-view analyses and innovation experiences to improve business operations and support career transitions. Jim worked for large and small government and commercial organizations agencies, as well as social justice and environmental non-profits. His active military career included criminal investigations, operational assignments, advanced technology acquisition, and the Joint Staff. Jim’s post-Air Force career included foresight studies, program management, and proposal/business development. He is a former President of the Metropolitan Chapter of the World Futures Society, a member of the Association of Professional Futurists, and former Chair and President of several non-profits, including Virginia Interfaith Power & Light. He has an undergraduate degree in history, and graduate degrees in Public Administration and Science and Technology Studies.
